List of Scholarships for International Students to Study in the UK
There is a wide range of scholarships offered by the UK Government to support international students coming to study in the UK. A few of them are:
1. Chevening Scholarships
They are a part of the UK government’s global scholarship program. They are awarded to outstanding scholars from Chevening-eligible countries around the world and the awards are typically for a one-year Master’s degree. Tuition fees, a living allowance, an economy class return airfare to the UK, and additional grants to cover essential expenditure and covered in this scholarship.
2. Scotland Saltire Scholarships
The Scottish Government, in collaboration with Scottish universities, is offering Scotland’s Saltire Scholarships to citizens from Canada, China (including Hong Kong), India, Japan, Pakistan, and the USA. This is offered to students who wish to study full-time Masters degrees fully delivered in Scottish universities, in the areas of science, technology, creative industries, healthcare, and medical sciences, and renewable and clean energy. Each award is worth £8000 to be used towards tuition fees for 1 year of full-time study.
3. Commonwealth Masters Scholarships
The Commonwealth Scholarships are intended for students from developing Commonwealth countries who want to pursue a Master’s study in the UK. These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID). Each Scholarship provides airfare to and from the United Kingdom, tuition and examination fees, personal maintenance allowance, thesis grant (if applicable), an initial arrival allowance, among others.

The Global Study Awards
The British Council, Study Portals and ISIC have launched ‘The Global Study Awards’ that allows international students to receive a scholarship of up to £10,000. The Global Study Award enables and encourages young and brilliant minds to experience and explore new countries, cultures and languages, and get a world-class education. This scholarship is opened twice a year to two international students.
Goa Education Trust Scholarships
Managed by the British Council, the Goa Education Trust (GET) Scholarships aim to encourage students from the region to study in preeminent universities in the UK. This scholarship is for postgraduate students and covers partial or total course fees for postgraduate studies in the UK.
Charles Wallace India Trust Scholarships
Charles Wallace India Trust (CWIT) enables Indians in the early to mid-stages of their careers to spend time in the UK, helping them to achieve artistic, academic and professional ambitions and to broaden their international contacts (British Council). This scholarship offers to cover accommodation, living expenses, fees, and fare costs in the UK. Two years of programs are not included in this scholarship.
British Council Great Scholarships for Indian students
Indian students can be eligible for around 60 scholarships from UK universities, across a variety of subjects under the GREAT scholarship grant. The scholarship offers to cover tuition fees for one-year postgraduate courses.
