Eligibility Criteria to Study in the UK without IELTS
Evaluation of your X and XII scores
Some British universities will consider applicants’ language ability based on their English scores in high school and middle school. If your English language scores are 60%, or more in X as well as XII English language, the above-mentioned universities, plus some more might allow your admission. This also has an exception. A few universities only require you to submit your XII scores and assess your application based on that because that is the last of the two scores.
Language of your school’s primary medium of instruction
This might come as a piece of news to you, but some UK Universities accept your application if English is the primary language of your education. This essentially means that if you used English as the language of instruction throughout your academic career and possess a record of high grades overall, your application may be considered. The admission department of the university you plan to apply for might waive off the IELTS requirement, however, please confirm this with your university, or reach out to us in case of any queries.
Interview with the University
Your university might want to assess your language skills before waiving off the IELTS requirement for you. To do so, many universities prefer to speak with you in person and conduct an interview before accepting your application. This interview is often conducted through a phone call that can be made at the nearest testing centre. This interview aims to test your English level, and if you leave a sufficient impression on the interviewer, the university is likely to waive off IELTS.
Take Alternative Language Tests
Many universities accept other English Language Proficiency that you can take as an alternative to IELTS. The university you choose to apply for will either mention the tests they accept on their website, or you can reach out to the university’s admissions department to know the same. You can choose to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Trinity College London Integrated English Skills (ISE), PTE Academic, Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) and Duolingo English exams.
Doing a pre-sessional English Course
You can choose to do a pre-sessional course offered by your university, and adapt to the UK Education system. You will gain all necessary language abilities, as well as other skills required in a UK classroom.
